Voki
Get a Voki now!
Week 3 Entry
Prior to the e-learning tutorial I was unfamiliar with vokis. However, when I heard that a voki related to an avatar I knew what a voki was as I have had prior knowledge and experience with avatars.
A voki is similar in some aspects to an avatar. A voki is a tool that is easily accessible through the internet at no cost or you can sign up and be a member of the site. Another name given to a voki is a talking head.
How can a voki be a valuable tool in the classroom?
This tool potentially can be used to engage students and introduce a topic of study or content to be covered during the unit or school term. Another possible use for a voki is to help students learn a new word in languages other than English. For instance; if the students were investigating the Italian culture, the voki could be used to listen to and pronounce Italian words (appropriate words of course). A talking head could be a novelty for students and would have to be introduced with care so students understood its purpose. I have experimented with the tool to see what other potential it has for classroom use. I discovered that the program doesn't have a great deal of space to record or type in what you want the talking head to say. In having discovered this I believe that it has limitations to what you can be done with it in this point in time as an educator. However, I'm sure students could have a lot of fun experimenting with this tool.
Thanks for reading.
Join me again for further developments in my e-learning journey.
