Prior to this tute, I had little understanding and experience with wikis. My prior knowledge of a wiki was wikipedia. Wikipedia is primarily used to search for words, information online. I presumed that Wikipedia was just like sourcing information from an encyclopedia. However, I found out later that this site allows all types of people from all walks of life to add or delete information from this site. Warning to all fellow users of the internet and gathering of information online: This site is should not be used singly as a source of relevant and accurate information.
I am currently using a wiki to communicate with other group members on an assignment. I am able to view information that has been gathered so far by others and am able to figure out how I will contribute towards the assignment. This tool has been very useful to our group as a point of reference, to communicate and to collaborate as a team. Another advantage to me by using a wiki is that we I am able to access it any time to clarify, communicate as regularly as humanly possible. The table below elaborates further on the advantages, disadvantage and possible improvements of a wiki. The table highlights to me that the advantages far outweigh any disadvantages that wikis pose. Therefore, this tool would make a great accompaniment for students to work collaboratively on a classroom task or assignment.
Thank you for taking an interest in the blog. Hope to hear any comments that you wish to make on my e-learning journey to date.
Till next time...
