In the e-learning tutorial this week, the following tools were investigated:-
• learning styles
• temperaments
• Powerpoint
• wikis

Learning Style questionnaire

It is vital information for the educator to know how the learner learns best. This is also one of the eight learning management questions (8LMQs). Therefore, collecting this information from all the learners in the class the educator will be able to enhance learning experiences for all learners.

What are the implications for learning?
The results revealed to me that I am primarily an active and visual learner. This means that I learn by viewing and doing. As an adult learner I require to invest my time reading and discussing with others, writing notes on what I have just read which works wonders for me. By using visual representations such as a concept map helps me to gather my thoughts.

After completing the learning style questionnaire online it revealed the following results.

Style Scores
Visual
11
Social
18
Physical
14
Aural
13
Verbal
14
Solitary
12
Logical
12

By completing this questionaire online it revealed that I'm a well rounded learner. However, the physical and social aspects are relatively similar with social slightly more elevated than all other learning styles. The social aspect is true of me as I do like to interact with other people and defiantely don't like to sit in solitude with my own thoughts to keep me company. Also by being a social learner I gain a lot from discussions with others about a topic or subject. Vygotsky theorises that human beings develop cognitive structures through interaction with other humans (McInerney & McInerney, 2006).

Possibilities for its use in the education realm

Some advantages of completing a learning style questionaire online:-

It cuts down on paper based questionaires so that means less photocopying and printing which means less trees being cut down (kind of environmentally friendly). It utilises the use of ICTs.

Though the best part about it is that it automatically calculates your score and gives a visual representation in the form of a graph which is excellent for visual learners.

  1. I would love to trial these tools in the classroom as one of the first 'get to know you' tools before I even start the unit. I think that if you can 'pidgeon hole' people first then you have a fair chance of engaging them in the learning environment.
